New information on road traffic conditions and railway traffic in the Traffic Situation app

Traffic Management Finland has published a new version of its popular Traffic Situation (‘Liikennetilanne’) app. New features include more detailed information on road traffic conditions and changing signage. The service also provides information on real-time railway schedules.

“The popularity of the Traffic Situation app, launched last year, has proven that consumers actively desire more information to make their everyday mobility easier. In traffic, knowledge is power. The updated app now features the changing signage of road traffic, including speed limits and warnings, information from road weather stations and more detailed driving weather forecasts. In addition, the app offers easier access to railway traffic information to enable more efficient travel connections,” explains Tomi Lehtola, one of the app’s developers at Traffic Management Finland.

In the future, Traffic Management Finland aims to develop the mobile app to more seamlessly support commuter traffic.

The Traffic Situation app is a consumer view to selected traffic data provided by Traffic Management Finland and made available in the open Digitraffic service. The user volumes of traffic data in Digitraffic have been on the rise. In 2019, the service saw up to 14 million requests per day. In addition to the Traffic Situation app, the data is utilised in navigational systems for road traffic, among other things.
